Award winner: Katrina Williams, a student at Park University, was among recipients of awards from Kansas City area branches of the national association.
Williams received a Re-entry Award of $500. The award recognizes women who have overcome serious obstacles to enter or return to college after being out of school for at least five years.
Williams is a dean’s list student majoring in communications.

Staley High School
Journalists win: Students and school publications earned top honors in the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association’s state contest in Columbia.
Winning All Missouri awards were the Staley yearbook, the Legacy, and the news magazine show, STTV Bird’s Eye View.
Maddy Benda and Kelsey Bennett, sophomores, and Madison Lott, a senior, won All Missouri in the photo essay category for the Talon news magazine. Amber Lewis, a sophomore, won for art/infographic.
Yearbook All-Missouri winners were Rileigh Bates, a senior, for infographic design; Kelsey Bennett for sports action photo and for sports feature photo; Caroline Bonacorso, a sophomore, for academic photo; and Trudy Swegle, a sophomore, for student life photography.
For the online publication, Emilie Kerr, a sophomore, won All Missouri for a column on StaleyNews.com.
Journalism teacher Cherie Burgett was recognized by the state association as Journalism Teacher of the Year. She advises the print and online journalism programs at Staley and teaches introductory journalism and photography courses.
State 4-H Congress
Northland participants: Members of 4-H clubs in the Northland were among more than 230 teens from across the state who attended a five-day conference at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Participants from Clay County were Warren Barge, Annie Bensyl, Brynne Davis, Karlin Peters and Travis Zimmer; and from Platte County, Dylan Bishop, Courtney Leape and Katelyn Leape.
The 4-H club members participated in workshops covering such topics as marketing, agriculture education, electricity, leadership and line dancing. Delegates also identified priorities and set long-range goals.
