Service recognized: Heather Timmons, a graduating senior, was given a President’s Volunteer Service Award.
The national honor recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered time to their communities and their country.
Timmons has volunteered more than 300 hours at St. Luke’s Hospital. She plans to pursue a degree in diagnostic medical sonography.

Liberty Oaks Elementary School
Librarian honored: Teresa Barnett, a library media specialist, has been named the Librarian of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Association of School Librarians.
Recipients are chosen based on service and leadership in their school library and influence on students and staff.
Barnett has worked in the Liberty School District for 17 years. Previously, she taught at Manor Hill and Lillian Schumacher elementary schools and served as a library media specialist at South Valley Junior High School.
She has been in her position at Liberty Oaks for seven years.
Park Hill School District
Journalists win: Students and school publications earned top honors in the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association’s state contest in Columbia.
The Park Hill South High School yearbook, “South Paw,” and the student news magazine, “The View,” won All-Missouri awards, the highest score.
Yearbook staff members winning All-Missouri awards were Abby Cogswell, a senior, in portrait photo; and in the infographic design category, Georgia Campbell, a senior; Lauren Luton, a senior; Dani Proffitt, a senior; and Adriana Rivera, a junior.
All-Missouri newspaper staff winners were Vivian Brockman, a senior, for photo illustration; Carson Cavitt-Wells, a senior, diversity writing; Anna Preuss, a junior, in feature writing and in diversity writing; and Alex Rothers, a senior, in diversity writing.
All-Missouri winners at Park Hill High School were Kirby Conrad, a junior, in news photo; and Jordan Elder, a senior, in news story short from and in public service announcements. The newscast, “Trojan TV News,” and the yearbook, “Troyian,” also received the highest score at the state contest.
