Academic accolades: James “Zac” Jarrard, a graduate of Park Hill High School, was named the senior male recipient of the Outstanding Parkite Award.
The award is given to students who exemplify the ideals of character, conduct, scholarship and student activity and participation.
Jarrard holds a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average with a double major in economics and political science/international politics. On campus, he founded the University’s Business and Investment Club and served as business manager for Park Student Government Association.
Jarrard also participated as a tutor and peer mentor in Park’s Academic Support Center. In 2015, he was recognized as the Park Servant Leader of the Year, an award given to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to service and a record of working effectively with others on campus and in the community.
The Outstanding Parkite Award is given to a senior female and a senior male at the annual Honors Convocation. Moira Potter from St. Charles, Mo., was the other recipient.
Northland Career Center
Singers selected: Kaitlyn Owsley and Echoe Weir, North Kansas City High School students, were selected for the 2016 All-State FFA Choir.
They were selected based upon musical ability through an application process. The choir performed earlier this month at the State FFA Convention in Columbia.
Kaitlyn and Echoe are member of the Northland Career Center FFA Chapter.
The Northland Career Center in Platte City provides career and technical training to students from 13 area high schools.
Soroptimist International of Kansas City Northland
Scholarship winner: Ha Haung, a graduating senior from Park Hill High School, was awarded a Health Care Scholarship.
The scholarship is given to a female graduating senior who has applied or been accepted into a health care program at a college or university. Haung has been accepted to Washington University in St. Louis where she plans to pursue a degree in biology with an emphasis on dentistry.
