State honors: Bethany Toates, an agricultural education student at the Career Center in Platte City, earned first place in an FFA competition for beef production-entrepreneurship.
Bethany also was awarded the FFA state degree, the highest rating bestowed on a student in Missouri. She will be recognized at the FFA convention in April.
Bethany is a student from Smithville High School.

Park Hill School District
Spelling champ: Peyton Wiewel, an eighth-grader at Lakeview Middle School, advances to national competition after winning the district spelling bee.
Students in fifth- through eighth-grades were eligible to take a computerized spelling test. The top 60 from the exam competed at the district level.
Placing second in the contest was Lakeview seventh-grader Allyson Scribner. Ainsley Higgins, a sixth-grader at Plaza Middle School, placed third.
Peyton will compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in Maryland.
Faculty honors: Seven Congress Middle School teachers earned the 2015-2016 Collaborative Teachers of the Year award.
They are Anna Bejcek and Steven Chrostowski, who teach special education, and Linda Davidson, Ashley Evers, Ann Jacob, Scott Marsh and Deb Still, who teach seventh grade.
They were presented the award at a conference of the Association for Middle Level Education and the Missouri Middle School Association.
The award is based on the teachers’ teamwork and educational innovations and the success of students through the collaboration.
Liberty North High School
Model United Nations contest: Students from more than 100 high schools across the country competed at the Model United Nations of the University of Chicago Conference.
Acting in roles of international diplomats and political leaders, the students analyzed and debated issues in world politics.
Earning Outstanding Delegate recognition were Maddi Van Dyne, Zach Klein, Mac Newton and Cami Smith.
Dasia Caraballo, Ying Chow and Sara Venier were awarded Honorable Mentions. Cheyenne Bourgeois, Jacob Lozano and Jake West received Verbal Commendation awards.
The Liberty North team placed in the top 10.
