Young artist honored, and other school notes

Northland school notes
Liberty High School

Artist recognized:

Elijah Wallace, a senior, was awarded second runner-up in Best of Show at the Northland Art League High School Student Art Show.

Wallace entered a watercolor portrait titled “Uncontrolled Growth.”

Other students who entered the show were Serena Baker, Seth Parker Bosch, Hannah Gall, Desiree Johnson, Austin Jones, Sara Maclay, Zoe Pixler and Elizabeth Weers. Their work was submitted by instructors of advanced creative photography and advanced placement studio art.

English Landing Elementary School

Librarian chosen:

Angela Van Batavia was named the 2014 Emerging Leader for Missouri by the American Library Association.

One leader was chosen from every state. They will work with problem-solving groups, network with peers and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership role. The Missouri Association of School Librarians sponsors Van Batavia’s participation.

Northland Christian School

Student honored:

Sarah Davis has been named a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

She placed among the top five percent of all students nationwide who competed by taking the preliminary qualifying tests in 2012. Commended students are honored for exceptional academic promise.

Kansas State University

Graduate degrees:

Two Northland students completed requirements for master of science degrees this summer on the campus in Manhattan.

They were Joyce McCawley of Kansas City, North, and Richard Groen of Platte City.
