A Northland homeowner who shot and killed an intruder earlier this month will not face criminal charges.
Christopher Robinson, 30, of Kansas City, Kan., was fatally shot Sept. 4 after he fought with the homeowner inside a residential garage in the 9000 block of North Garfield Avenue in Kansas City, North. Earlier that morning, Robinson allegedly stole three vehicles and was involved in a high-speed pursuit through several Northland communities.
His family said Robinson was battling a drug addiction.
“Your actions were lawful,” Clay County Prosecutor Daniel White wrote the homeowner this week. “Defending your family and yourself from an aggressor is a bedrock principle of the law, and your actions were all legal and fully justified.”
White said the only person who could be charged in the incident would have been Robinson, had he lived.
During the incident, Robinson allegedly fought with the homeowner, who killed him with two shotgun blasts after Robinson stole keys and tried to drive off in the family’s vehicle.
