Fair events

The Platte County fair will open TuesdayA wide variety of events are planned throughout the week including:

• Free Family Night, July 23. Grounds open at 4 p.m. with exhibits, children’s activities, train rides, horse and mule rides and carnival. Beard contest and canine demos at 7 p.m. Opry show at 8 p.m.

• A benefit wine tasting of Missouri wines is 8-10 p.m. July 24 in the Platte Purchase building. Cost is $15 and includes a souvenir wine glass.

• Demolition Derby heats start at 7 p.m. July 24. Open to adults and high school and college age drivers. For information call Troy Jones at

. Registration is available that night also. Monster Truck car crush is at intermission.

• Mud Marathon is at 7 p.m. July 25. A limited number of entries will be taken. Preregister by emailing Roy Butts at

. Dash for Cash is at intermission. Men and women will compete in separate heats through mud pits for $100.

• Truck and Tractor Pulls begin at 7 p.m. July 26 and 27. The pulls are Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Sanctioned Truck and Tractor Pulls. Register that night or through www.Pro PullingLeague.com. Contact Justin Hill at

Zona Rosa hosts Fair preview

The Platte County Fair Preview is Saturday at Zona Rosa.

The preview will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Town Square stage.

Singing, fiddling and entertainment are planned, including performances by the fair talent contestants. Professional entertainers who will perform at the fair are also on the program.

The 2012 Platte County Fair Queen will open the event and the 2013 queen candidates will make an appearance.

A drawing for a family fair basket will be held.
