Platte City Board of Aldermen election, Ward 1

The residents of Platte City's Ward 1 will have a new representative on April 2. One of the two seats is open, and candidates Vickie Atkins and Lee Roy Van Lew are facing each other on the ballot for the two-year term.

The residents of Platte City's Ward 1 will have a new representative on April 2. One of the two seats is open, and candidates Vickie Atkins and Lee Roy Van Lew are facing each other on the ballot for the two-year term.

Atkins said while the city is financially stable, she still hopes to see more job growth in Platte City. She specifically mentioned the potential of the area east of Interstate 29.

Van Lew did not answer questions.

Stances: Her top priorities are job growth and development within city limits. She said the city needs to focus on the east side of I-29 and bring in more economic development. She hopes her district will continue to attract families who are interested in older homes.
