Positions on three key issues:
KCI: I believe it is premature to make a decision on new terminal versus renovation at this point. I do not believe we have a reasonably close estimate on the cost of any potential options, and we do not have a cost-benefit analysis of any of the options. It must be made clear that the entirety of the cost will be paid by airport-generated revenue and not by city taxpayers. Since the airlines bear the vast majority of the costs, we need to work with them to see what they are willing to pay for.
Kemper Arena: We need to see what proposals come forth in response to the request for proposals the city has already issued. That will not happen until August. I personally prefer renovation to demolition, but the decision must be driven by what is most economical for the city.
Streetcar expansion: Not now. After the initial 2.2-mile route has been in operation a while and if it proves successful, then it may make sense to see if the voters who would benefit by an expansion are interested in extending the line. Conversely, if the initial route does not perform to expectations, then we will know not to pursue further efforts.
