Growing lunch: Fifth-graders from Meadowbrook Elementary School will be harvesting vegetables for their lunches when school starts in the fall.
The fifth-graders planted pepper, tomato, zucchini, green bean and cucumber seeds earlier this month. The school garden is designed to encourage healthy eating choices and teach students about agriculture.
This year, students from Winnwood Elementary School harvested vegetables they had grown from seeds planted during the previous school year.
Vegetables from the school gardens are used in lunches served in the cafeteria.
