NAWS Chip & Clip
The Northland Animal Welfare Society (NAWS) is sponsoring Chip & Clip events this month for pet owners.
The first is Green Acres Dog Days of Summer, 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Briarcliff Village, 4175 N. Mulberry, Kansas City, North.
Pets can be microchipped for $20 and get nail trims for $5 by Kathy Plant of Kathy’s Clippery.
The Green Acres Dog Days also includes animal rescue groups; pet contests such as smallest, largest, best trick; face painter; and a Farmer’s Market.
On Aug. 28, NAWS will have a Chip & Clip booth at Zona Rosa’s Queen Bee Shopping Spree.
The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. during Jazz on the Square at Zona Rosa. Booths will be set up in The Grove in the Marshall Building. The Queen Bee Shopping Spree includes swag bags with coupons and goodies for the first 150 shoppers, plus refreshments and raffles.

Dog swim parties
The annual Dippin’ Dogs Swim parties are Sept. 6 and 7 at two locations in Kansas City.
The Bay Water Park at 7101 Longview Road, Kansas City, will host a swim party from noon to 2 p.m. for all sizes of dogs on Sept. 6.
A second Dippin’ Dogs swim is Sept. 7 at The Springs Aquatic Center, 9400 N. Congress Ave. in Kansas City, North.
The Northland swim party is also a benefit for The Northland Animal Welfare Society (NAWS). Two different sessions are planned there: small (under 40 lbs.) and senior dogs, noon to 2 p.m.; and large dogs, 2-4 p.m.
The cost at both locations is $10 per dog. All dogs must be supervised by an adult. There is a limit of two dogs per person. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
“It’s just gotten so popular. It’s a lot of fun. It’s almost chaotic because you have 250 dogs of all shapes and sizes running around together. That’s why we’re breaking it into two groups (in the Northland). The dogs have a blast,” said Heidi Downer, marketing and events manager with Kansas City Parks and Recreation.
Microchipping will also be available for $20 during the Northland swim party.
“It’s a fun event. A lot of people show up. We have our booth there and it’s good exposure for us,” said Goldie Arnold of NAWS.
NAWS provides low-cost spay and neuter services, vaccinations, and other wellness services at its clinic at 3400 N.W. Vivion Road in Riverside. For information go to www.pcnaws.org.
