Police were called to North Kansas City High School Tuesday morning after a gun was found in a student’s backpack.
The gun was found about 9 a.m. during a routine search of a student who was re-entering the building after having left, according to a North Kansas City Schools spokeswoman.
The school district released a statement about the incident Tuesday:
“The student was never belligerent, nor aggressive, and cooperated fully,” the statement read in part. “At no time were students nor staff members threatened. Our safety and security procedures proved successful. Student safety is of utmost importance to our district, and a primary need that must be met in order to provide extraordinary educational experiences.”
