Tons of sand that a Brookside homeowner had used to replace her lawn, sparking controversy in the neighborhood, were being removed by workers this week.
In an upscale neighborhood of traditional, well-landscaped yards, the home at Walnut Street and East Meyer Boulevard became known for its artificial beachlike appearance and, two years ago, the resulting conflicts with neighbors.
Now the sand has been scooped into piles, apparently to be taken away, amid ongoing renovations to the home, which was damaged by a fire in January.
Neighbors said the owner has not lived in the house since the fire, but they expected her to return when the repairs are finished.
The reason for the sand removal was unclear. The owner could not be reached for comment Friday.
