It seemed that every summer when the family hit the road
We kids did not appreciate the dramas that unfold.
The best-laid plans our parents made for summertime diversion…
Yet what impressed us kids the most upon this road excursion?
The splendor of a cavern carved by nature’s wondrous hand?
Or rocky canyon gaping wide — the prize of all the land?
The buildings — bridges — motorways of which the cities boast?
Or snow atop the mountains, or the surf along the coast?
But no, to kids the highlight of the trip was so much more:
The ice machine the motel had on each and every floor!
