A teenager who nearly drowned at an Independence water park Tuesday was expected to recover after being rescued by a lifeguard, according to authorities.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at the Adventure Oasis Water Park in Independence when a 15-year-old boy appeared to struggle in the pool and ingest water after jumping off a diving board, said Craig Brenner, a spokesman for the city of Independence.
The teenager was unresponsive when a lifeguard and a police officer stationed at the pool brought him out of the water.
After the lifeguard administered aid to the teen, he became responsive again and appeared alert as he was taken to a hospital.
The water park is owned by the city of Independence and managed by Midwest Pool Management.
