Enjoy Thursday because the hot, muggy weather is returning to Kansas City just in time for the weekend.

Highs Thursday across the Kansas City area are expected to be in the middle 80s.

But the brief break from the heat ends Friday as highs are expected climb near 100 degrees. The heat index in Kansas City is expected to reach about 106 degrees, while some areas might see the heat index approach 110 degrees.

Saturday is not expected to be as hot. Highs are expected to reach in the lower to middle 90s. The heat index, however, is expected to exceed 100 degrees in Kansas City.

A prolonged break from the heat will begin Sunday, lasting through most of next week, with highs reaching only into 80s.
