Man found dead in Lawrence identified

Police say they have found no signs of foul play and are waiting for an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

A man found dead Wednesday morning along Kansas 10 in eastern Lawrence has been identified as 37-year-old Nathan Thurman.

Lawrence police said Thurman had recently been staying at the Lawrence Community Shelter.

A motorist saw his body in the grass on the north side of K-10 east of O’Connell Road and called police just after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said there did not appear to be any obvious signs of injury and foul play was not suspected, but they are awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Traffic on K-10 was partially blocked during the investigation, but the highway reopened several hours later, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
