A driver of a car headed the wrong way on Interstate 29 in Kansas City, North, died instantly early Thursday in a head-on collision.
Allen S. Ramos, 21, of Kansas City, Kansas, died in the crash, police said.
The other driver suffered serious injuries, but they were not believed to be life-threatening, said Sgt. Bill Mahoney with the Kansas City Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit.
The crash occurred about 3:15 a.m. as the driver headed south in the northbound lanes of I-29. The car sideswiped a vehicle between Northwest 56th and Northwest 64th streets before colliding head-on with the other vehicle.
Authorities closed northbound I-29, a popular route to Kansas City International Airport, for about three hours while they investigated. The highway reopened shortly before 6:30 a.m.
