Flooding of low-lying farm land in Platte County has prompted officials to close several roads near the Platte and Little Platte rivers.

The county announced the closing of these roads in the area of the rivers: Algier Road, Edgerton Junction Road, Dick's Creek Road, Cockriel Road and Route E east of Camden Point, Mo.

In a statement, Sheriff Mark Owen warned that flooded roads can hazardous.

"I urge the citizens not to drive through flood waters," he said. "These waters can be deeper than they appear, and vehicles can easily become stranded or get swept downstream by flood waters."
