The panic comes — I realize my keys I have misplaced
So quite in vain (a couple times) my steps I have retraced.
They must be somewhere in the house, just someplace I’ve forgot;
I’ve looked beneath the cushions of the couch, but all for naught;
And double-checked the kitchen — bedroom — bathroom, thereabout
While turning thus the pockets of my pants all inside out.
In full despair, I step outside but see to my confusion:
They’re right there in the front-door lock, precisely where I’d used ’em.
