19-year-old Skidmore, Mo., man drowns while swimming in Nodaway River

A 19-year-old Skidmore, Mo., man drowned Wednesday evening while swimming in the Nodaway River.

The man was identified as John S. Schneider, according to a preliminary report from the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Water Patrol Division.

Schneider was swimming about 8 p.m. in the river about a half mile south of Skidmore when he became distressed and was unable to stay afloat.

Rescuers from several agencies searched the area and found Schneider about 11:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead 15 minutes later.
