Four people were injured, two seriously, in an accident that closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at Little Blue Parkway on Monday afternoon.

A box truck struck a sport utility vehicle from behind about 1:30 p.m., shoving the car into the rear of a second truck, said Sgt. John Passiglia of the Independence Police Department. Medical personnel took the SUV driver and a passenger to Centerpoint Medical Center. Doctors considered the passenger to be in critical condition and the driver in serious condition, said Passiglia.

The two truck drivers sustained injuries, but neither of them were considered serious, he said.

The accident was cleared by about 3:45 p.m.
