Laser pointer prompts scare at Kansas City, Kan., high school

Teams of officers scoured the rooms and halls at Wyandotte High School after reports of an armed person inside the school. Instead, they found a laser pointer.

A student’s laser pointer led to a false report of an armed person inside Wyandotte High School Thursday morning, Kansas City, Kan., police said.

Teams of officers and sheriff’s deputies rushed to the school at 25th Street and Minnesota Avenue after a student reported someone had a handgun with a laser site.

But after viewing surveillance video, police identified the reported “suspect” and determined the item was a laser pointer.
