Kansas City police on Monday identified a driver killed in a Northland crash Sunday night as Randal DeWitt, 35, of Ferrelview, Mo.

DeWitt was southbound in a Pontiac Grand Prix in the 11400 block of North Congress Avenue about 9 p.m. when he lost control and slammed sideways into the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder. The car bent the trailer’s underride guard and ended up wedged under the trailer. Police had to lift the trailer to free the Grand Prix.

The truck driver had his parking lights on while parked on the shoulder and was waiting for a nearby business to open so he could deliver a load, police said. The truck driver was not hurt.
