According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, the Kansas City area is about 2 inches below the normal average for rainfall this year.

That may change come Thursday, however, when scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit the region.

Until then, expect sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 80s and even low 90s.

A cold front is expected to hit Wednesday night, bringing the threat of storms, some severe, according to the National Weather Service.
