Kansas City police are investigating the shooting death of a woman in the Northeast area Tuesday afternoon.
Officers called to Thompson and Oakley avenues about 3:25 p.m. found the victim dead in the street, next to the passenger side of a car. Officers placed cones in the street to protect shell casings and other possible evidence.
No further details were available, including a suspect description or whether the woman was with anyone when she was shot.
The killing broke an 11-day streak of no homicides. Before Tuesday, the city had recorded 19 homicides this year, down from 32 through the same date last year and 38 by the same date in 2012.
A few minutes before the homicide was reported, two people were critically injured in a shooting at Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue. Their injuries were considered life-threatening, police said.
Police did not believe the shootings were related.
