The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a St. Louis man died after his car hit a state transportation department’s street sweeper.

KMOX reports the accident in north St. Louis County early Friday killed 30-year-old Lamont Purley.

The patrol says Purley apparently lost control of his car in the rain on an on-ramp to southbound Interstate 270. His vehicle hit a median wall and then the street sweeper.

Purley died at the scene. The driver of the sweeper was treated for minor injuries.

The interstate was closed for several hours but has reopened.
