An object thrown from a Kansas City apartment building struck a man in the head while he stood with a police officer in the street late Tuesday night.

An officer had pulled the man over at Linwood Boulevard and Chestnut Avenue for suspicion of driving under the influence when the object, believed to be a door-locking mechanism, was hurled at them from an upper window in a nearby apartment building, according to police.

The man was not seriously injured, but was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

Police were unable to find the person who threw the object.
