Buckner’s police chief has been charged with misdemeanor domestic assault involving his 17-year-old son.

According to the Jackson County sheriff’s office, the alleged assault happened last week at 11 Washington St., which is the address for the Buckner Police Department.

The charge against 46-year-old Lawrence Michael Cook was filed in Jackson County Municipal Court, where he is scheduled to appear June 4, according to the sheriff’s office.

City Administrator Yvonna Stapleton said Friday that the city had no comment about the allegation. She said Cook is still employed with the city.

City Attorney Steve Mauer said city officials had not seen any reports or details of the allegation. If an incident occurred on city property, no employees had reported seeing any wrongdoing or inappropriate behavior involving the chief, Mauer said.
