Put us in the camp of folks bewildered by seeing Paulina Gretzky on the May cover of Golf Digest. So of course we’re laughing our putters off at the goofy spoof.

The golf mag ticked off a lot of people by putting Gretzky, the daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, on the cover in white tights and a sports bra.

Paulina has made a name by posting photos of herself all over social media in various states of undress. She’s engaged to PGA golfer Dustin Johnson and is frequently seen at his tournaments, which apparently is reason enough to put her on the cover dressed like that.

Said editor-in-chief Jerry Tarde: “Paulina ranks at the high end of the golf celebrity scene today, and she has a compelling story to tell. She also might get some new people interested in the game.”

Wink, wink.

LPGA commissioner Mike Whan unloaded on the mag, which revealed the cover right before the first major LPGA event of the season.

“We're disappointed and frustrated by the editorial direction and timing Golf Digest has chosen with its most recent magazine cover,” he said. “If a magazine called Golf Digest is interested in showcasing females in the game, yet consistently steers away from the true superstars who've made history over the last few years, something is clearly wrong.

"Inbee Park wins three straight major championships in 2013. Stacy Lewis, in 2012, becomes the first American to win Rolex Player of the Year since 1994. Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko set historical benchmarks while blossoming as the Tour's youngest ever champions.

“And evidently, not one has been 'cover worthy' for Golf Digest. Growing the game means a need for more role models and in these exciting times for women's golf, the LPGA is overflowing with them."

Photographer Cy Cyr in Orlando, Fla., who shoots a lot of golf stuff for publications including Golf Digest, couldn’t resist the dust-up and decided to have some fun.

So he got a bunch of his guy friends – his brother and neighbor among them – to pose exactly the way Paulina did, wearing pretty much the same thing she did on the cover.

(We hear that they all wore the same sports bra.)

Cyr posted the “Gretzky Boys” send-up on his website,

, with this note: “Hey Paulina, DJ and Mr. Gretzky, need a fourth?”

Cyr noted on his blog that Walter Iooss, the photographer who shot the Gretzky Golf Digest cover, is one of his favorites. “Thanks for the inspiration @walteriooss, for this photo and for the last few decades,” Cyr wrote on Instagram.

Sorry, Walter. We like the dudes better.
