A new executive will be in charge of Hallmark Cards’ Gold Crown operations effective April 7.

John X. Watson, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Edwin Watts Golf, will join Hallmark as president-Hallmark Gold Crown. He succeeds Jack Moore, who plans to retire from the company.

Watson also has retail experience as president and CEO of Sunglass Hut and as executive vice president and chief operating officer of HSN, formerly the Home Shopping Network.

David Hall, president-Hallmark North America, praised Moore’s leadership of Hallmark’s Gold Crown stores for the last five years. During that time, the company developed Recordable Storybooks, Interactive Storybooks and new technology systems to support its retail network.

The capstone of Moore’s time at Hallmark was development of the new HMK retail store.

Hall said he is impressed by the broad retail experience and business acumen that Watson will bring to Hallmark after 30 years in the retail industry. The company said Moore will remain at Hallmark for a while after Watson arrives to help in the transition.
