St. Patrick’s Day races, parades to close Kansas City streets, affect bus routes

Kansas City drivers better plan their travels or pray for the luck of the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day weekend as runs and parades temporarily take over some streets.

Kansas City sent out an advisory saying streets will be closed for two races and three parades celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Saturday

The Westport St. Patrick’s Day Run will close these midtown streets from 9:45 a.m. to noon Saturday:

• Westport Road between Pennsylvania Avenue and Clark Avenue

• Clark Avenue between Westport Road and 43rd Street

• 43rd Street between Clark Avenue and Warwick Boulevard

• Warwick Boulevard between 43rd and 38th streets

• 38th Street between Warwick Boulevard and Gillham Road

• Gillham Road between 38th Street and Linwood Boulevard

• Linwood Boulevard between Gillham Road and Broadway Boulevard

• Broadway Boulevard between 33rd and 34th streets

• 34th Street between Broadway Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue

• Pennsylvania Avenue between 34th Street and Westport Road

The Big 12 Fun Run and Family Stroll that will close these downtown streets from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday:

• 13th Street between Grand Boulevard and Oak Street

• Oak Street between 13th and 18th streets

• 18th Street between Oak Street and Grand Boulevard

• Grand Boulevard between 13th and 17th Streets and between 18th Street and Pershing Road

• Pershing Road between Grand Boulevard and West Pennway Street

• West Pennway Street/Broadway Boulevard between Pershing Road and 20th Street

• 20th Street between Broadway Boulevard and Southwest Boulevard

• Southwest Boulevard between 20th and Wyandotte streets

• Wyandotte Street between Southwest Boulevard and 16th Street

• 16th Street between Wyandotte Street and Grand Boulevard

The Brookside St. Patrick’s Day Warm-up Parade will close these Brookside streets from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday:

• Wornall Road between 65th and 63rd streets

• 63rd Street between Wornall Road and Main Street

• Main Street between 63rd Street and Meyer Boulevard

• Meyer Boulevard between Main Street and Brookside Road

The Metro will reroute or delay the buses in the Brookside area for the Brookside St. Patrick’s Warm-up Parade.

In North Kansas City the Snake Saturday Parade and Festival on Saturday. The parade route begins at 11 a.m. at 14th and Swift streets.

It then heads north to Armour Road, where it heads east on Armour to Howell Street. The route then turns south on Howell where it ends at 18th Street.

• Washington Street between Wyandotte Street and 135th Street

• Broadway Street between 31st and 43rd streets

Meanwhile, Planet Comicon is expected to draw nearly 20,000 people to downtown Kansas City. While no streets will be completely closed, one lane of Central Street between 14th and 15th streets will be closed from Thursday through Sunday. More information on Planet Comicon can be found at
