Two people were charged in Jackson County on Wednesday in an alleged home-security-alarm scam.
Colton B. Halladay, 22, of Provo, Utah, and Steena L. Berry, 21, of Lindon, Utah, are each charged with exploitation of the elderly and deceptive business practice.
According to court records, the two knocked on a 75-year-old woman’s door in Grandview on Monday, represented themselves as employees of ADT Security and told her they were there to update her alarm system. According to the charges, the woman did not know she was signing up for another security system at $40.99 a month for 60 months.
Grandview police said there have been complaints about similar activities in the last week in Kansas City, Raytown and Sugar Creek.
Grandview police received another call Tuesday and arrested the suspects, both of whom denied they had represented themselves as ADT employees.
Bond was set at $10,000 each.
