KCI passenger traffic climbs 1 percent

Kansas City International Airport started off 2014 on a positive note, with total passenger traffic climbing about 1 percent in January from the same month a year ago.

The Kansas City Aviation Department reported that 680,606 passengers arrived and departed at KCI in the first month of 2014.

In addition, passenger boardings at the airport climbed 1.2 percent in January to 340,850 travelers, the department said.

Southwest Airlines, which has about 45 percent of the passenger market at KCI, reported a 5 percent increase in boardings during the first month of 2014. Delta, the second-largest carrier providing service here, experienced a 5.8 percent dip in traffic, the department said.
