The Truman Heartland Community Foundation has more than $265,000 to give to nonprofit organizations through its annual community grants process.
The total includes $80,000 in new money from the Jelley Family Foundation Endowment for Children’s Education Fund. It is funded by a $1.6 million bequest from orthopedic surgeon Carl Jelley, who lived in Blue Springs before he died last year.
The foundation invites eastern Jackson County nonprofits, or others serving citizens in that part of the county, to submit a letter of interest requesting funding. The deadline is April 4. Finalists will then be invited to submit a full proposal due in late May.
Programs must focus on areas like arts, culture, neighborhoods, historic preservation, education, health, leadership development and programs for youth and older adults. The Jelley education fund has requirements of its own.
