A Lee’s Summit man pleaded guilty Friday to a sex charge involving a 13-year-old girl.

Codey J. Everhart, 22, pleaded guilty to first-degree statutory sodomy. As part of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Prosecutors dropped two other charges against Everhart.

Authorities arrested him in August. According to court documents, he knocked on the victim’s window after her mother had left for work. The victim let Everhart into the house when he asked to use the restroom. He came out the bathroom and assaulted the victim.

The victim’s mother later called authorities and showed a sheriff’s deputy a series of text messages sent to her phone in which Everhart apologized for his actions and asked that she not “call the cops.”
