The Big 12 and the Sprint Center announced Wednesday that tickets for the conference’s men’s basketball tournament next month have sold out.
Tim Allen, senior associate commissioner and director of the Big 12 men’s tournament, said the tickets sold out in five days. According to the league, the tournament has sold out every year it has been held at the Sprint Center — in 2008 and from 2010 through this year.
“It is a testament to the hard work and support of everyone in Kansas City and we look forward to another memorable experience,” Allen said in a news release.
A limited number of standing-room tickets may be released closer to the start of the tournament, which starts with two opening-round games March 12. The quarterfinals are March 13; the semifinals, March 14; and the championship is March 15.
• Five Kansas and Kansas State players were honored Wednesday on all-academic Big 12 teams.
Kansas graduate student Tarik Black and Kansas State senior Ryan Schultz were first-team selections and Kansas sophomore Perry Ellis, senior Niko Roberts and Kansas State senior Will Spradling were second-team honorees.
First-team players have maintained a 3.20 or better grade-point average, and second-team picks have at least a 3.00 GPA. All honorees must have played in 60 percent of their team’s games.
