Two persons were shot Monday in an altercation outside an illegal after-hours night club in the West Bottoms area of Kansas City.

The shootings happened just after 1 a.m. at a business in the 800 block of Mulberry Street. One of the victims, whose name and age were not released, sustained life-threatening injuries, police said.

An argument between several intoxicated persons may have led to the shooting. A bouncer in the club pushed the combatants outside, and the argument escalated from there, witnesses told police.

One victim was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle, according to initial police reports.

An officer, working off duty, noticed the commotion and investigated. When others saw the officer, several vehicles sped away. A large crowd had gathered in the parking lot. There were about 30 persons in the club at the time of the shooting.

The officer ordered everyone trying to leave to go back inside while additional officers were summoned.
