Ryan Ferguson has wasted little time while basking in his new found freedom.
In addition to working on a new book and befriending international enigma Amanda Knox, he’s apparently made time to hit the gym.
In a recent photo posted to the “Freed Ryan Ferguson” Facebook page, the shirt-less Columbia, Mo., native looks not unlike a bodybuilder.
“Getting ready to take photos for my new e-book… and had my first experience of a spray tan!” the post with the photo reads.
It’s been three months since Ferguson was released from a 40-year prison sentence. Originially charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the 2001 death of Columbia Daily Tribune sports editor Kent Heitholt, Ferguson’s convictions were overturned in November after a Missouri appeals court panel said the prosecution withheld evidence that could have proved helpful to Ferguson at trial.
He was released after eight years in custody to considerable fanfare on Nov. 12, and has since been on a quest to make up for lost time. After making the talk-show rounds following his release, Ferguson has hit the road, traveling everywhere from New York to Florida to San Francisco.
He’s also honored his commitment to offer support to others he believes have been wrongfully convicted.
In a CNN interview, he discussed his friendship with Knox, who was accused of killing her roommate while studying in Italy in 2007, and has taken up the cause of Mark Woodworth, the Missouri man facing his third trial for the alleged murder of a neighbor in 1990.
