A man wanted on felony warrants who allegedly fired shots at Clay County sheriff’s deputies Sunday morning was taken into custody later in the day.

No deputies were injured in the incident that began about 1:20 a.m. Sunday when deputies tried to stop a vehicle being driven by the suspect. The man refused to stop and fired shots at the deputy, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

A short time later, a passenger in the suspect vehicle was dropped off with an unknown injury. That person was taken to a hospital.

Another deputy then spotted the vehicle, and the suspect once again fired shots before running away in the area of N.E. 127th Street and N. Eastern Road, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said later Sunday afternoon that the suspect was in custody, but details of the arrest were not immediately available.
