A Kansas federal grand injury indicted a 38-year-old Mexican man Wednesday for possessing 15 pounds of methamphetamine in Merriam.
Guillermo Fernandez-Vera would face at least 10 years in prison if convicted.
Federal drug agents working the day after Christmas received a tip that they would find the drugs if they searched a Toyota Tacoma pickup bearing Mexican license plates that was parked at a Merriam motel, according to federal court records.
Agents followed Fernandez-Vera as he drove with his son to a shopping area near Antioch Road and Johnson Drive, court records said. After receiving permission to search the truck, agents found the drugs hidden in the truck’s seat backs.
