A Kansas City nightclub that referred to rape in a promotional tweet for New Year’s Eve removed its posting after an eruption of criticism on social media.
Aura, 3832 Main St., posted a tweet Tuesday afternoon introducing “the anti-rape program... We won’t RAPE you on prices on NYE...”
The reaction was less than customer pleasing, leading the nightclub to take down the posting.
“Disappointed in the poor choice of advertising tools,” one woman commented on the club’s Facebook page. “Any self respecting woman would not want to set foot in your club after that.”
“Worst social media post of 2013,” someone else tweeted.
“This is disgusting,” read another tweet. “Rape is not an advertising tool, morons! It is a horrific, invasive, violent act. Delete this IMMEDIATELY!”
The reaction to the promotion was overwhelmingly negative. Thirteen minutes after the rape comment was tweeted, however, 16 people had “liked” it.
Aura describes itself on its website as a “liquor-fueled playhouse designed for the discerning club goer.”
