A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Kansas City area as snow, wind and bitter cold are forecast to settle in starting on Wednesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service predicts 2 to 4 inches of snow will fall across the area in the afternoon and evening, beginning north of Interstate 70 and then moving south.
The high Wednesday will be 23 degrees, but then even colder temperatures are likely to settle in with wind chills from -15 degrees to -20 degrees overnight and into Thursday morning.
Wind gusts and the snow could cause treacherous driving conditions with slick roads and low visibility.
Thursday brings a high of only 12 degrees and another dangerously frigid night.
