Olathe police announced Friday that extra police will be on the streets looking for intoxicated drivers on New Year’s Eve.

The officers will participate in a saturation patrol that is part of the department’s efforts to reduce crashes involving drunken drivers.

The saturation patrol will operate roughly between 11p.m. on Dec. 31 to 3 a.m. on Jan. 1.

The saturation patrol is funded by grants from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

During the operation of the saturation patrol, police will strictly enforce the state’s seat belt laws in an effort to reduce critical injuries caused by motor vehicle crashes.
