Kansas Gas Service is warning people about about fraudulent calls purported to be from the company demanding payment.

A news release from the natural gas utility said that customers have reported receiving calls asking for debit card or electronic check information for payment for past-due balances. The news release said that “Kansas Gas Service does not conduct business in this way and discourages customers from providing personal information over the phone unless the customer has made the initial contact.”

People who receive suspicious calls from people purporting to be from the utility should hang up and call Kansas Gas Service at 800-794-4780 to verify their account. Calls also may be reported to police.
