A driver was shot in the back near Crown Center early Sunday after he left a private party in the Power Light District, Kansas City police said.
The 18-year-old man noticed a vehicle following him, police said. When he purposely took some wrong turns, the vehicle stayed with him, police said. As he drove along 26th Street between McGee Trafficway and Grand Boulevard just before 2 a.m., an occupant of the other vehicle fired at him, he told police.
There had been some disputes at the private party, and police were investigating whether the shooting was related to one of them.
Police later recovered nearly two dozen shell casings along 26th between McGee and Grand. Bullets damaged the Hallmark building at 2501 McGee, breaking four windows and piercing the elevator glass. Police found two bullets inside the building.
Detectives were reviewing video surveillance from the area.
