A man carrying a sawed-off shotgun robbed a bank in Shawnee on Monday afternoon, federal officials reported.
The robbery happened about 1:30 p.m. at the Intrust Bank branch at 19501 W. 65th Terrace.
Officials described the robber as a white man in his late 20s with a thin build who spoke with a Southern accent. He was 6-foot-1 or 6-foot-2 and weighed 160 to 170 pounds. He wore a camouflage ski mask, brown or black hooded jacket and gloves.
He fled northwest from the bank carrying an undisclosed amount of cash, the FBI said.
Shawnee and Lenexa police launched a ground search with a police K-9 while the Kansas City police helicopter unit searched from overhead. Officers arrested a person in a wooded area north of the bank about 3 p.m., Shawnee police said.
