Kansas City police on Wednesday identified a woman whose body was found last week behind a vacant house in the 3300 block of Oakley Avenue as Brandis R. Ruetz, 31.

City workers cleaning up debris in the desolate area Dec. 4 found the body in an area apparently used as an illegal dumping ground for trash and tires.

Ruetz hailed from Sycamore, Ill., but had been living in the Kansas City area in recent years with her brother and later a boyfriend.

Claycomo police arrested Ruetz in September for drug possession. She was released on bond the next month but didn’t show up for court in November, so a judge issued an arrest warrant.

Homicide detectives declined to release her cause of death but said her body did not appear to have been at the vacant house for very long. Detectives were tracking down friends and relatives to learn when they last saw her.

Her obituary said she left four children.
