The Chiefs signed rookie wide receiver Jheranie Boyd to the practice squad Wednesday.

Boyd, who is listed at 6 feet 2 and 190 pounds, signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in May. He later spent most of training camp with Cincinnati, only to be released on Aug. 25.

Boyd, who caught 44 passes for 860 yards and 13 touchdowns during his career at North Carolina, said he ran a 4.36 40-yard dash in his workout with the Chiefs on Tuesday. He said he also chose No. 81 in honor of one of his favorite receivers, Terrell Owens.
