Kansas City police officers shot at a car accelerating toward them Monday night in a parking lot in the 7900 block of Troost Avenue, police said.
The car, described as a black Dodge with Colorado license plates, sped away and last was reported traveling in excess of 80 mph on Holmes Road. A man with a gunshot wound showed up about a half hour later at St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition, police said. Charges against him were expected to be filed Tuesday.
The officers were conducting a narcotics investigation at about 10:30 p.m. in a service station parking lot when the vehicle in question, in which there was a passenger besides the driver, accelerated toward them, police said. Fearing for their lives, they shot at the car. The officers suffered no injuries in the attempted aggravated assault, police said.
